A New Chapter for In Our Nature: Face-to-Face Therapy in Scunthorpe

I've been a little quiet on the blogs lately. That's partly because I've been busy working on something behind the scenes.

If you've followed In Our Nature for a while, you'll probably have noticed that much of what I've shared has been about nature, getting outdoors and the ways in which spending time outside can support our wellbeing. That's something I'm still passionate about, and it will continue to be an important part of what I do.

But there's another side to my work that I've been wanting to give more space to.

I'm pleased to share that I'm now offering face-to-face therapy from the Therapy & Wellbeing Centre in Scunthorpe, alongside my existing online appointments.

A little more about my work

I'm a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, and I've worked in mental health for nearly 20 years, initially as a mental health nurse and subsequently as a therapist.

Over that time, I've worked with people experiencing all sorts of difficulties. In my private practice, my main focus is now CBT, offering a practical and collaborative approach to difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, low self-esteem and trauma.

I don't see therapy as someone sitting in a room being told what they should be doing. For me, it's about working things through together, making sense of what's happening and finding ways of doing things differently that actually fit the person.

CBT is at the heart of my work, alongside approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and EMDR.

Why the change?

In some ways, this isn't really a change in direction it is has been my intention all along.

Nature and the outdoors have always been important to me, both personally and professionally. I still believe there is something valuable about getting outside, slowing down and creating space to think.

But I've also spent a large part of my career sitting with people in difficult moments and helping them make sense of what they're experiencing. That's something I want In Our Nature to reflect more fully.

So, while I'll still be sharing photographs from walks, thoughts about nature and ideas around wellbeing, you'll probably start seeing more about therapy and mental health here too.

I'll be writing about some of the things I encounter in my work, explaining aspects of CBT in straightforward language, and sharing ideas that might be useful whether or not therapy is something you're currently considering.

Face-to-face CBT in Scunthorpe

I'm now offering face-to-face appointments on Fridays at the Therapy & Wellbeing Centre in Scunthorpe.

I also continue to offer appointments online, which can be a useful option if you're further afield or simply prefer being at home.

If you're considering therapy but aren't sure whether it's right for you, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. There's no obligation to book an appointment — it's simply an opportunity to have a brief chat, ask any questions and see whether working together might be a good fit.

Thinking about starting therapy?

If you've been thinking about therapy for a while but haven't quite taken that first step, I'd be happy to have a chat.

You don't need to know exactly what's wrong, have a clear diagnosis or already know that CBT is right for you. The initial telephone consultation is simply a chance to talk through what's been going on and see whether I might be able to help.

If you'd like to find out more or arrange a free 15-minute consultation, get in touch!

Or, if you'd prefer to have a look around first, you can find more information about my CBT and therapy services in Scunthorpe and online on the website.

And if you've been following along because of the nature side of things, don't worry — there will still be plenty of that too.

This is just another part of the story.
